Keep computer criminals out!

Strangers have no business accessing your computer. Good security is therefore important. Leiden University is doing everything in its power to protect your work computer from intruders. But you can also take precautionary measures yourself!


Study plan for the second year

This summer, all first-year Leiden students will be formulating a study plan for their second year of study. The introduction of the study plan is intended to encourage you to keep up your study tempo after the first year.


18 May: Van Bergen Cup ‘13

On Saturday 18 May, the Van Bergen Cup will take place in Leiden Sports Facilities. The event kicks off with different sports and is followed by ample social activities. The tournament is open to all Leiden University students and will be organized by the cooperation of the Van Bergen Fund and the LUC Sports Committee.


Six scholarships for annual LERU BRIGHT Conference 2013

Leiden University is offering 6 scholarships for 2nd/3rd year bachelor students and master students who want to participate in the annual LERU BRIGHT Conference 2013. The conference will be held at the University of Freiburg, Germany, from August 12 to 16. The conference theme is Energy Transition in the 21st Century. Application before 30 April.


LUC Congratulates Sass Sasot, winner of 2013 ECHO Award

LUC offers its congratulations to our very own Sass Sasot, who was awarded the ECHO Award for Excellence at a ceremony in the Peace Palace yesterday evening.  In a packed auditorium, Sass gave a sensitive, moving, and powerful speech about the importance of appreciating where you come from as a guide for reaching into the future. 


Leiden's links with the Dutch Royal Family

Future King Willem-Alexander studied in Leiden, as did his mother, Queen Beatrix. Leiden even has a member of the House of Orange to thank for its original foundation. Leiden academics are specialists in the history of the Royal House. There are also Leiden alumni who work for the royal couple. To mark the succession, the following are a few examples of Leiden's bonds with the Royal House.


Schools in Leiden open again

The schools in Leiden are open again on Tuesday 23 April. The directors of the schools reached this decision in discussion with the Mayor, the Public Prosecution Service and the police. 


The true Istanbul feeling

In the last week of March, twenty Leiden students of Turkish and Middle Eastern Studies left for a seven-day trip to Istanbul. Their goal: to follow lectures and immediately see the theory in practice, on a city walk.

Women in high places

Having more women in top positions does not as a matter of course improve career opportunities for other women. On the contrary, successful women who display 'modern sexism' to cope with a masculine work environment can undermine the ambitions of other women. Leiden rises in THE Reputation Rankings

Together with four other Dutch Universities Leiden University is included in the Top 100 of the Reputation Rankings of Times Higher Education Magazine. Leiden is the only one of the five universities to have performed better than last year.
